Position Summary:

  • Utilize all safe practices, Shop Personal Protective Equipment, and operating procedure requirements. Machine Operators are responsible for the quality and preparation of product parts and materials for the production assembly areas. Operators assure the on-time delivery of materials and parts through the safe and efficient setup, programing, and monitoring of all machines where the employee is trained and authorized with the operating system(s). Machine Operators are also responsible for the routine preventive maintenance, daily cleaning, and understanding of how their machine(s) are integrated with the SME Steel manufacturing process for best response to production demands.

Responsibilities:

  • Consistently use required PPE and apply Safe practices according to company policy and standard operating procedures at all times on SME property.
  • Work well with others and know the location of people and equipment in the surrounding area.
  • Be organized, coordinated, and maintain a reasonably clean work area and positive attitude.
  • Apply Job Specifications, Company, and Code standards as required.
  • Safely setup, program, operate, and perform routine preventive maintenance on multiple machines.
  • Inspect and resolve or report Material and equipment issues as or before they occur.
  • Check the finished products, Inspect and verify that the parts made or the materials prepared meet the size, quality, and quantity of job requirements.
  • Train and mentor less experienced employees on machine operations as needed.
  • Participate in and make suggestions in process improvements and projects.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested.
  • Recognize and addresses safety hazards in all process applications. Report any and all safety hazards to the Department Lead person or supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain Professional conduct, Punctual attendance, dependability, and respect of shop schedules.
  • Physical ability to perform task requirements and work extended hours in a physically demanding environment.
  • Able to adapt to a changing environment and willing to learn.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with SME Steel machine operations and an acceptable attendance record.
  • Maintain professional conduct and be Self-Motivated, independent, and able to operate SME machinery safely under proper authorization and minimal supervision.
  • Consistent use of required PPE and application Machine Safety Guards and practices per machine process and company policy including LOTO procedures.
  • Able to safely lift at least 65lbs. without mechanical means.
  • Sound technical skills and know the programing and operating procedures to multiple SME machines.
  • Clearly understand shop plans and drawings as it pertains to the department.
  • Verify that dimensional requirements on parts and materials are correct.
  • Complete all required quality, production, and maintenance logs, charts, and material traceability marks.
  • Discharge completed parts and materials to the next step in SME manufacturing process.
  • Capable of temporarily Tending and/or monitoring any of the SME Steel machines and performing emergency shut down when and if needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of the machinery and confirm proper operating conditions.
  • Able to communicate verbally and/or in writing to coworkers, Lead people, Quality assurance inspectors and maintenance personnel about production numbers, quality issues, and machine problems.
  • Clean up work areas and keep machinery free of debris and objects that create production obstacles and Safety hazards.
  • Perform other duties as needed
